Grants for U.S. Journalists Covering Health in the Global South

Application Deadline: March 30, 2026.

Journalists reporting for U.S.-based news organizations are invited to apply for funding from Pulitzer Center to cover critical health issues in the Global South.

This program provides funding to reporters who want to cover the impact of US health aid cuts in Africa and other regions.

Selected journalists can produce their stories in various formats, including written articles, podcasts, photo essays, or multimedia features, for publication in outlets reaching U.S. audiences.

Funding for each project ranges from $5,000 to $20,000, depending on the scope and needs of the reporting.

Why This Opportunity Matters

Many countries in the Global South rely heavily on international support for health programs but recent reductions in foreign aid have affected services ranging from maternal and child health to disease prevention initiatives.

Journalists are encouraged to focus on stories that reveal both the challenges and the solutions communities are developing to cope with these changes.

Potential topics include:

  • Access to healthcare for children and families
  • Maternal health and reproductive services
  • Programs addressing infectious diseases like HIV/AIDS
  • Nutrition, sanitation, and community-based disease prevention efforts

Who Can Apply

This opportunity is open to journalists who live in the U.S. and plan to publish their work in outlets with a U.S. audience.

Freelancers, reporters from established media organizations, and multimedia journalists are all encouraged to apply.
