Ugandan Government Unveils List of Licensed Labour Export Firms

Uganda’s Ministry of Gender, Labour, and Social Development has published a list of licensed labour export companies permitted to legally operate in the country.

On April 7, 2026 the Ministry updated the list for 2026 which has over 200 companies.

The move, according to the ministry, is meant to strengthen public trust in labour export firms that have for long been at the center of widespread allegations of exploiting workers seeking employment in foreign countries.

The state minister for youth and children affairs, Balam Byagaruhara Atenyi, said in a post on his official X account that the initiative is geared towards protecting job seekers who often lose huge sums of money to fraudulent recruitment companies.

Minister Byagaruhara also assured victims of scams of recovery of their lost funds in the event that the firms involved are fully registered.

He emphasised that it is the duty of the recruitment companies to safeguardthe well-being of workers they recruit, especially during their time of service at different duty stations abroad.

Byagaruhara further stated that the government is working to bolster awareness creation among Ugandans to protect them and their funds from sham companies.

He urged those seeking jobs abroad, especially youths, to fully verify the registration status of the recruitment agencies before making financial commitments.

Verification can be done through the Ministry of Gender, Labor, and social development official website or its offices across the country.

For long there have been various reports of exploitation of Ugandan workers abroad, especially in Gulf countries such as Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, and Qatar, among others.

Common complaints range from mistreatment, trafficking, underpayment, and poor living conditions.

With publication of the updated list of foreign recruitment companies and mass sensitization efforts, the Ministry officials are optimistic that abuses will decline, allowing more Ugandans access and enjoy meaningful employment opportunities abroad.

Below is a list of licensed foreign labour recruitment companies in Uganda.
